Upgrading your teaching with AI: going beyond using ChatGPT to draft lesson resources
Lesson planning with AI can go far beyond simply having tools like ChatGPT or Teaching AI write lesson resources for you. Yes, you can create lesson resources in under a minute - but there's much to it than that!
One of the most common conversations we have with other teachers in the staffroom are about lesson ideas: How can I make this lesson more engaging? What practical activities or teacher demos can I include? What misconceptions do students often have? It's these kinds of discussions that are often of the greatest value, in our experience, because they ensure that our teaching doesn't fall into a rut of the same several activities on repeat, lesson after lesson.
You can use ChatGPT or Teaching AI to achieve something very similar to those staffroom conversations. Do you want a list of common student misconceptions? Ask for it! Want a few suggestions for practical activities? Just ask!
We have built a few of these tools into Teaching AI, in the 'Upgrade Lesson' category. (Just choose that option from the first drop-down menu in the Teaching AI lesson planner.) Many of these resource types are totally free for all members - e.g. adding a link to careers and suggesting engaging activities - while others are available only to our Supporters. Just yesterday, we added four new lesson upgrade options for Supporters - including suggesting lines of questioning, identifying misconceptions, and two more!
All of these are things you can do with the ChatGPT web interface. But if you're like us, you.may find that you get sick and tired of typing in the context of your class and your course every time. That's one of the reasons we created Teaching AI: to make sure teachers everywhere can use AI tools to save time and upgrade their lessons, without the hassle.
